dc.description.abstract Problem Statement: Report shows nine women in every ten deliver at home, mothers who give birth at home and mothers who tried to deliver at home have less chance of getting medical or surgical service so they arc likely to come to hospital and health centers with couple of complications, some of them die at arrival and some of them survive, but got lifelong disability. In my study setting the institutional delivery service coverage is around 8% which is almost similar with the national figure. So this study is concerned to identify what factor affecting institutional delivery service in Arba Minch Zuria woreda. Study objective: To identify determinants that affect utilization of institutional delivery services in Garno Gofa zone, Ethiopia, 20l3.Study Methods: A community based unmatched case control study design was conducted in Arbaminch Zuria Woreda. Data were collected using a structure questionnaire from EDHS questionnaire and from previously conducted similar studies. Result: Mothers' age between 20-34years during the interview were 3 times more likely to deliver at health institutions than mothers more than 35 and above (AOR=3.1, 95%CI: l.01, 9.5). Mothers with secondary and above year of schooling were significantly associated with utilization of health facility delivery service than the illiterates (AOR 2.1, 95%CI= l.03-4.4). Similarly husband education with secondary and above year of schooling were significantly associated with utilization of health facility delivery service than the illiterates (AOR 3.2, 95%Cl=1.6-6.3). Surprisingly women who use previous health facility delivery service were 70% less likely to utilize safe delivery service with (AOR 0.28, 95%CI=0.16-0.48) than those who did not use the service. Conclusion and recommendations: The following conclusions were made from this study. Mothers and husband's educational level previous hearth facility delivery, knowledge of the benefit of institutional delivery and unaffordable opinion on health facility delivery were statistically significant association in both bivariate and multivariate predictor variable for choice of delivery place. The integrated maternal health care program should focus on illiterate and higher order pregnant women with their husbands to bring awareness on the benefits of health facility delivery and the risk of home delivery by expanding and intensifying health extension program with culturally appropriate educational campaigns. Further research will be needed to assess why previously health facility delivered mothers not constantly come to health facility for delivery service.
